Challenge
Vital signs were measured manually, with hours between checks. Nurses lost time, and patients faced unnecessary risks from missed changes in condition.
Solution
We partnered with WARD to design and develop a continuous monitoring system. Wireless sensors and algorithm-based software track patients automatically, giving nurses live updates and built-in documentation.

More care, fewer complications

The solution has reformed patient monitoring by enhancing efficiency across wards. Nurses now free up time for direct care. Patients face fewer clinical complications. Hospitals save costs by reducing preventable issues and extended stays. WARD reduces alarm frequency by as much as 98% compared to conventional monitoring systems and has led to a 17% reduction in patient complications. It also reduces the severity of complications and shortens hospital stays by an average of one day, from five to four. Nurses experience a time saving of nine minutes per patient per day on average, with even greater savings when features such as swiping vital signs directly into the electronic health record are enabled.

The health economics are equally clear. With the average cost of a single complication estimated at DKK 70,000, and including the cost of sensor equipment, monitoring just 10 beds with WARD for one year results in savings of around DKK 2,000,000 and an ROI of 268%.

Recognition has followed. In 2022, WARD won the Gold Data Science Award at the Danish Digital Awards. The jury praised it as “a case that solves an extremely current and serious problem — a question of life or death.” WARD has since entered the market in six EU countries and is in ongoing discussions with distributors in more. International clinical and commercial pilots are underway in collaboration with leading hospitals and opinion leaders in patient safety and continuous monitoring.

The regulatory milestones have been just as important. WARD reached CE-marking under the EU Medical Device Regulation in 2024, becoming only the seventh company in Denmark — and one of the youngest — to achieve this certification. At the end of 2023, WARD-CSS was CE-marked as a Class IIa medical device and the company achieved ISO 13485 certification. And in February 2025, WARD received FDA approval as a Class II medical device, marking a major step in entering the U.S. market. The system is now being piloted and implemented in partnership with four U.S. hospitals.
